Bloomsbury Estates
Bloomsbury Estates blends the ease of condominium living with gracious accommodations in Second Empire architecture authentic to its historic locale. Residents enjoy well-appointed, traditionally-designed condominiums in two six-story buildings. This, in one of the most highly coveted downtown Raleigh neighborhoods.
Located at Boylan and Hargett streets in the Warehouse District, Bloomsbury is close to the Boylan Heights neighborhood, which offers both hospitable neighbors and proximity to downtown amenities. Bloomsbury Estates are also one block from the proposed TTA Station.
The address is a prestigious one, situated on the plantation called “Wakefield” which contained the Joel Lane House, “the finest within 100 miles.” The site was originally home to the Wake Courthouse, which was built in 1771 as a significant addition to Lane’s Estate, as much of the formation of the Capital City and County was determined here. This documented log structure was one of several on the plantation before Lane sold 1,000 acres in the underlying valley to be founded as the City of Raleigh, the one and only planned State Capital in the country.
It was the state’s Royal Governor Tryon who christened Lane’s plantation with the name “Bloomsbury” during one of his visits. Tryon was enraptured with the town of Bloomsbury, England- a town famed for its poets, writers, and artists, and he must have hoped for the same creative energy to envelop the new city of Raleigh below. Continuing in this spirit, the suites of Bloomsbury Estates bear the names of renowed works by Bloomsbury, England's artists and writers.
The lavishly landscaped European courtyard with its' elegant gazebo and European fountain, as well as the stature of the 16-foot, four-faced clock tower speak volumes on Bloomsbury Estates’ eloquent design. Upon entering the Estates, a complete billiards room with wet bar and a library filled with books on Raleigh’s history and treasures from Bloomsbury, England, await.
Each suite features a gracious private porch, evoking the spirit of the Boylan Heights neighborhood. The interior consists of spacious floor plans and nine-foot ceilings. Meticulous attention to detail is evident in the crown molding and solid wood built-ins. Kitchen cabinets are custom designed, and granite countertops and high-quality appliances are standard. The living room entices, with its ornate mantle and gas log fireplace. Modern amenities abound, including state-of-the-art communications and security systems, and professionally engineered sound proofing in the secure concrete building construction.
From the city’s highest elevation, oversized double-hung windows provide an awe-inspiring view of the Raleigh skyline. The Virginia Woolf Suites on the top floor offer a 360-degree overlook. After over two hundred years, Lane's vision remains as Bloomsbury Estates offers the most grand view of Raleigh.

I live very near the Bloomsbury estates site and am familiar with the builder and sales center. On-site sales are handled by Cambridge and Associates. The sales office is located at 115 S. St. Mary's St. 834-4444.

I believe the projected completion now is mid 2009, and at last check it was only slated to be residential. Though, Sidetrack Brew Pub will be opening across the street, moonlight is wakling distance, chargrill/snoopys is a stretch, as is 5 star, but they're there. Also, the sales agent for this project has changed.
Bloomsbury Estates will be completed in September 2008!! So just a few months away....
Also, restaurants within walking distance are plentiful. I live right across the street from Bloomsbury and we walk to Moonlight (one block), Char-Grill & Snoopy's (two blocks), 5 Star (3 blocks), Irregardless & Charlie Goodnight's(4 blocks), and several more. Also all the restaurants and entertainment on Glenwood is only about a half mile walk!!!
I visited the sales center on Saint Mary's Street and the agents are great! I believe they are with Cambridge & Associates Realty. I'm sure they would be happy to provide you with more information.
Does anyone know when Bloomsbury condos will be open for living? Also will it have any retail or just living space? A cafe or bar would be nice since there isn't much within walking distance.
